Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Windrush Commissioner website.

This website is run by the Office of the Windrush Commissioner. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also tried to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

This website is largely compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some text does not have a sufficiently strong contrast against the background colour. In a one place on the site the contrast is 4.32:1, outside the limit for normal text of 4.5:1. This fails WCAG2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)).

We plan to issue a new background image by August 2025 that provides sufficient contrast to the text to meet the success criterion.

Disproportionate burden

There are no known issues that would be exempt under the disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The website contained no content that would be exempt from the regulations at the time the test was undertaken.
